The Rokumen-do
located in Hagyu Sanbonyagi is called Rokkaku-Jizo (a guardian deity of
children) by the locals. Although it is currently standing in the
middle of a rural landscape, it was originally standing alongside the
road that connected Sanbonyanagi and Nakanome. The
Rokumen-do remains alone, as the road has been
demolished. It is assumed that the Rokumen-do is a
Buddhism statue built in the early ages of the Muromachi-era, and it is
a duplication (*1) that has carvings(*2) of six Jizo done to its
body. The maximum height of it is 1.36m, the height of the
body (stone base and the Do) is 88cm, and each side of the hexagon is
uneven. However, it expresses a generous atmosphere as a
whole. During the enshrining practices, the flag of
“Rokkaku-Jizo” is put up. The Rokumen-do was designated as a
Tangible Folk Culture Property of the town in September
1976. One more standing Rokumen-do can be seen in the
Ishihara region as well.
*1 duplication: To make the niche, which symbolizes a Buddha statue,
separately on top of the body of the Do.
*2 carvings: To carve in a way that makes words stand out.
