Enmei-Jizo

Enmei
Jizo(it is placed at
the back of Nakanome Jichi-kan.) This Jizo, a guardian deity
of children, it is said that it’s famous for the power that saves and
prolongs your children’s lives. Enmei means to prolong your
lives. The reason why this statue was built is not clear,
but according to an elder, there used to be a cedar standing in the
east of the Goto family’s mansion and moreover its marks were left
until the land improvement. They say, back in the days
youths who were boasting their strength carried the jizo statue on
their back, lifted it on, and put it down on the road or in the garden
over the private houses. In 1920, the Shimanuki family built its temple
at a corner of Nakanome graveyard and enshrined the jizo in
it. Later the temple became too old, therefore in 1983, Mr.
Shoju of the Shimanuki family became a petitioner and he rebuilt Enmei
Jizo temple next to the Nakaome Jichi-kan. Five Jizo are
enshrined and many people visit there. Its festival is held
on April 28th.
